Urban gem with suburban sparkle: 704 E. Sharpnack Street, Philadelphia, PA

Upon meeting Pinckney and Michele Hewitt, I could tell that this “flipping” couple picked a diamond in rough in the 704 E. Sharpnack property. The house, situated in Mount Airy, a section of Philadelphia was a familiar neighborhood to me. Having numerous family members that made Mount Airy their home made this staging project feel like comfort. I knew these streets well, and could easily see the charm of this property that needed some TLC and some updates.

Walking into 704 E. Sharpnack, immediately I knew that this house was once the gathering space. If these walls could talk, I would hear laughter from card games being played in the basement, to women swapping recipes in the large kitchen, and children running from room to room using their wild imaginations.

The house, built in 1935, was a twin and for a city house it had plenty of greenery and a garage; which was a luxury in those times. Under a worn green carpet, were beautiful parquet floors and hidden under mounds of wallpaper of yesteryear were immaculate plaster walls. Upstairs were 4 bedrooms and a hall bath that let in natural light above via a skylight. Most handy, was a laundry shoot saving anyone from hauling loads of laundry down to the basement.

My vision for 704 E. Sharpnack was exactly the story that exuded from house: family. My interior design would focus on a couple that was ready to maybe start their family. The colors of the home would be neutral, grey, and beige with a pop of color in the kitchen and the master bedroom.

704 E. Shaprnack found its appropriate buyer—a family with two small children. The house sold in 2 months and it’s restored to exactly what it was made for...to host great memories of love, laughter, and FAMILY.
